The Tenax Schools Trust has published the Section 10 Consultation Report on plans to open and run the Bishop Chavasse Primary School in South Tonbridge. The Trust ran the consultation from the beginning of December through to 11 January and received over 170 responses from parents, residents, schools, churches and local councillors.
The response was extremely positive. 85% of respondents support the school being built on land adjacent to the new Somerhill housing development in Tudeley Lane, South Tonbridge. 87% thought that the Secretary of State for Education should enter into a funding agreement with the Tenax Schools Trust to open and run the Bishop Chavasse Primary School.
Ian Bauckham, the Chief Executive of the Tenax Schools Trust said “This is an overwhelming vote of confidence in our plans for our new school that will serve South Tonbridge families and their children”.
Christine Bayliss of CBECS who undertook the consultation on behalf of the Tenax Schools Trust said “Wherever we went, we met people who were enthusiastic about the school and the need to create new school places in Tonbridge. A new Church of England school fills a gap in provision and that came over strongly from residents too”.
Academy Trusts have to undertake a community consultation by law. They are obliged to reflect on any feedback they receive and ask the specific question on whether the Secretary of State for Education should enter into a funding agreement with the Academy Trust to open the school.
