As a trust, we know many of our students go on to do amazing things. Students and staff across Tenax are celebrating an extraordinary achievement which has hit the headlines: former Bennett Memorial student Matt Weston, winning double gold at the 2026 Milano Cortina Winter Olympic Games.
Matt raced to victory in the men’s skeleton event, securing gold for Team GB, before triumphing again in the mixed team skeleton alongside Tabitha Stoecker, making history with his second gold medal of the games.
The determination that carried Matt to Olympic glory was evident throughout his time at Bennett. Joining as a Year 7 student in 2008, he showed early sporting strength on the rugby field before competing at a high level in Taekwondo, embodying the school’s values of resilience and the pursuit of excellence.
Justin Singleton, Bennett’s Head of Sport, reflected on what Matt’s success demonstrates: “Matt shows there’s no ceiling on what you can achieve, you’ve just got to find out what it is for you that’s your ‘thing’.”
Dr Karen Brookes, Headteacher at Bennett Memorial added, “Matt’s historic double Olympic gold will inspire students at Bennett and beyond to work hard and believe they can achieve their dreams.”
Matt’s journey from Year 7 student to double Olympic champion embodies what becomes possible when young people are supported to discover their strengths, pursue them with courage, and realise potential. His achievement is a powerful reminder of why we do what we do.
